Blog Post: GOP Gains in States Must Result in Action on the CCP

Election night 2024 was a stunning victory for candidates who rejected the Chinese government's attempts to expand influence into the United States. Not only did national results bring resounding wins for President Trump and Republicans at the federal level, but the GOP scored wins in states across the country. It is time for politicians to build on this mandate and pass laws that protect U.S. farmland, political independence, and economic superiority.   

Voters Rejected Candidates Who Capitulate to the Chinese Government 

Prior to the election, the Protecting America Initiative’s senior advisers Lee Zeldin and Ric Grenell penned an op-ed warning voters that Vice President Harris was the preferred choice of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Citizens around the country listened and thankfully rejected candidates who would allow communist influence to grow.  

The Republicans who were elected to office must now remember their promises to protect American national security from foreign adversaries. That is true on the state and local levels just as much as it is in Washington, D.C.  

Republicans Make Gains in State Legislatures Around the Country 

After Tuesday’s elections, the Republican Party now holds the House, Senate, and Governorship of 23 states. The GOP controls both the House and Senate in four more states. In other states, like Michigan and Minnesota, Democrats lost control of the House of Representatives, marking a huge change in the state’s policy direction.

State Leaders Have Key Role to Play in National Security 

As the federal government increases efforts to block CCP influence, state governments will become more attractive targets. From taking over our food supply, manufacturing, intellectual property theft, corporate espionage, to influencing U.S. politicians, Chinese government operatives work to affect American life in every state.   

These state legislators and governors now have a clear mandate to pass legislation that will help protect out vital national security interests and help expand opportunities across the county. The Protecting America Initiative has paved the way by developing model legislation that will accomplish these goals. Our policy prescriptions focus on six key policy areas:  

• Protecting U.S. Agriculture, Farmland, and Food Supply  

• Defending American Political Independence  

• Promoting American Jobs and Protect American Industry  

• Keeping China Out of Our Infrastructure  

• Maintaining Independence in Education  

• Stopping the Flow of Chinese Nationals & Fentanyl Across Our Border 

The Protecting America Initiative will now work on the ground with these governors and legislatures to fulfil the promise of this nationwide landslide. Many of these agriculture-heavy states would be wise to start early by quickly approving laws to protect farmland from CCP ownership. Together, we will pass these important policies and help secure the nation from the CCP’s dominance.
