State Efforts to Protect Farmland Are The Model For U.S. Congress
For at least five years, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been actively attempting to undermine the American economy and gain access to U.S. land. China is openly committed to the long-term goal of world dominance and sees exerting control over aspects of American life as a key to that objective.
States around the country have taken the lead in protecting jobs and agricultural land here at home. The Protecting America Initiative was created to help state elected officials and appointed leaders enact policies that will secure our national security and economic sovereignty. We’re already seeing the results... and we’re now expanding our efforts to the federal level.
States Took the Lead to Protect Farmland and Jobs
Over 20 states (listed below) have now passed or are considering legislation to protect farmland, land near military installations, or other sensitive real estate in the United States from CCP ownership. These states showed the U.S. Congress that there were steps that could be taken to secure American land from Chinese encroachment. Now, Washington, D.C. is following the state’s lead and taking action.
There are also numerous examples of state legislation that would defend American jobs from unfair CCP practices. Some states are making sure to use state dollars to support American workers, like Louisiana which gives officials the right to reject bids for state-funded projects if materials are provided by communist countries.
Policies like these and more have been percolating, gaining momentum, and being signed into law in states across the country. States like Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, and Tennessee passed some of the strongest protections against communist ownership of agricultural land. Thankfully, it looks like lawmakers in Washington are actively joining the fight.
The U.S. Congress Steps Up
Many in Washington are seeing the work that has been done in these states and are stepping up to join the fight against CCP encroachment into the United States. Just this week, Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) introduced the “Protecting America’s Agricultural Land from Foreign Harm Act” was introduced on February 19th in the United States Senate. The bill’s language mirrors legislation that was introduced in the House as well.
This legislation will create a federal law that bans anyone associated with the countries of Iran, North Korea, China, or Russia from purchasing or leasing any land in the entire United States. The language is based on successful state legislation that the Protecting America Initiative has promoted all across the country.
The new bill in Congress joins legislation like the “Not One More Inch or Acre Act” (S. 1136) and the “Securing America’s Land from Foreign Interference Act” (H.R. 344), which also impose land protections similar to those approved by states. Congress must now take the next step and give these bills swift hearing in their respective committees and bring them to the floor for a vote so President Trump can sign them into law.
